Two students killed as garbage truck hits motorcycle in Demra
Two university students were killed after a Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) garbage truck rammed their motorcycle in Dhaka’s Demra Konapara area early Friday (December 12).
The deceased were identified as Iram Redwan, 25, a student of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), and Apu Ahmed, 25, a student of United International University (UIU).
Their classmate Tawsif said Redwan and Apu were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a wedding event when the garbage truck hit them in the Konapara area. “Apu died shortly after reaching the hospital, and Iram passed away a little later,” he added.
Both students lived in the Shanarpara Chattogram Road area. Police have seized the garbage truck involved in the crash (Dhaka Metro SHA-140574).
Quoting the victims’ relatives, DMCH Police Camp In-charge Md. Faruk said Iram and Apu were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a pre-wedding ceremony when a city corporation garbage truck hit them in the Konapara area. Both sustained severe injuries. Locals rescued the duo and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
"The bodies have been kept in the DMCH morgue and the concerned police station has been notified about the incident," the officer added.
