Two students killed in four-vehicle collision in Dhamrai

Two students riding a motorcycle were killed in a devastating four-vehicle collision on the Dhaka–Aricha Highway in Dhamrai on Saturday morning (July 25) after a passenger bus rammed into vehicles slowed by a broken-down coach.

The accident took place in the Islampur area of Dhamrai, temporarily disrupting traffic on one of the country's busiest highways.

However, vehicular movement resumed after police removed the damaged vehicles from the road.

The deceased were identified as Abas Saha, a postgraduate student at Government Debendra College, Manikganj, and Sujay Saha, an HSC examinee from Shibalaya upazila in Manikganj. They were maternal and paternal cousins.

According to Savar Highway Police, a passenger bus had become immobile on the highway, forcing a private car, a covered van and a motorcycle approaching from behind to slow down and stop. Moments later, a speeding Swadhinata Paribahan bus lost control and ploughed into the stationary vehicles, triggering the fatal crash.

Abas and Sujay, who were travelling on the motorcycle, sustained critical injuries in the impact. Locals, assisted by police, rushed them to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared both dead on arrival.

Savar Highway Police Sub-Inspector Shahadat Hossain said officers quickly reached the scene, brought the situation under control and cleared the highway by removing the wrecked vehicles.

He added that the victims' families have been informed and legal proceedings are underway. Further action will be taken based on complaints filed by the families.
