Two teens tortured after being tied to trees, poles over alleged theft

Two teenagers were allegedly beaten after being tied to trees and poles in separate incidents in Rajshahi and Lalmonirhat over accusations of theft, sparking outrage after videos of the assaults circulated on social media.

In Durgapur, Rajshahi, a 14-year-old boy was allegedly tied to a tree with his hands bound behind his back and beaten over accusations of stealing a mobile phone and cash.

A video circulating online shows the teenager crying and screaming as his alleged attackers threaten to cut his toenails.

The boy lives with his maternal grandfather and attends school there. A man identified as his maternal uncle has been accused of assaulting him but denied the allegation.

Durgapur police said they were examining the video and would take legal action if a written complaint was filed.

In a separate incident at Chaparhat under Kaliganj in Lalmonirhat, a 15-year-old boy was allegedly tied by both hands to a bamboo pole and beaten over accusations of stealing a mosque loudspeaker.

A video shows several people hitting the boy with sticks and slapping him. At one point, he falls to the ground. Family members later rescued him and took him to a local hospital for treatment.

The boy’s mother filed a case with Kaliganj Police Station, naming three people and accusing another 20 to 25 unidentified individuals.

Police said they were conducting raids to arrest those named in the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
