Two time bomb explosions in Meherpur

Two time bomb explosions have taken place in an area near the BNP office in Gangni of Meherpur. The incident took place beside Hasan’s tea stall at Gangni Bazar around 3pm on Sunday. Although no one was killed or injured in this, panic spread in the area.

The Gangni upazila and municipal BNP office is located about 50 yards away from the explosion site. Locals assume that the time bombs were kept inside a tree present at the spot. Suddenly two explosions took place with a loud sound and later smoke was seen rising from the spot.

Organizational Secretary of Gangni Municipal BNP Adam Sumon said they had a programme on Sunday on the occasion of BNP’s founding anniversary. For this reason they were positioned beside a tea stall near the BNP office with several leaders and activists. At that time suddenly two time bombs exploded with a loud sound. However no one was injured in this.

He claimed that this incident may have been caused with the aim of foiling BNP’s programme. He also informed that panic has been created in the area after the explosion.

General Secretary of Gangni Upazila BNP Abdul Awal said they were positioned at the BNP office on the occasion of the founding anniversary programme. At that time suddenly hearing the sound of explosion they went outside and saw two batteries lying. He demanded to quickly identify who left these there and bring the involved persons under the law.

Inspector (Investigation) of Gangni Police Station Shimul Kumar Das said getting the news police inspected the spot. The exploded exhibits have been recovered from there and taken to the police station. The matter is being investigated. He informed that those involved with the incident will be quickly brought under the law after identification.
