Two unexploded grenades from the time of the Liberation War have been recovered in Jhenaidah.

The grenades were found around 12:30pm on Sunday, January 11, while soil was being dug for the construction of a house at Babu Shikder’s residence in Gariyala village of Sadar upazila. Construction workers noticed the rusted grenades and immediately informed the police.

Local residents said Babu Shikder was building a new house when the objects were discovered. Police went to the spot and informed higher authorities, after which army personnel arrived and recovered the grenades.

Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shamsul Arefin confirmed the incident. He said heavy fighting had taken place in the Bishkhali and Gariyala areas during the Liberation War, and the grenades were likely buried there by one of the warring sides at that time.
