Two women held with 7kg cannabis strapped to bodies in Cumilla
Police have arrested two women with a total of 7kg of cannabis during separate raids on passenger buses on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chandina upazila, Cumilla. The women had concealed the cannabis by strapping it to their bodies with Scotch tape.
Eliotganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Jakir Shikder led the operation, with SI Md Abdul Barek and his team setting up a special checkpoint on the Dhaka-bound highway in the Chaygharia area under Chandina upazila on Sunday morning, June 28.
During the raid, police searched a passenger bus of Papia Transport and detained Anju Begum, 45, a resident of Kaikhali village in Bhanga upazila, Faridpur, currently living in the Bank Field slum area of Tongi West Police Station, Gazipur. A search revealed 4kg of cannabis carefully wrapped with Scotch tape on her body.
Shortly after, police searched another Papia Transport bus and detained Mousumi, 34, a resident of Courtbari Bazar in Darus Salam Police Station, Dhaka. Another 3kg of cannabis was recovered from her body in a similar manner.
Police suspect the two women may have been involved in drug trafficking across the country for a long time.
OC Jakir Shikder said the operation was part of regular highway police efforts against drugs. Two separate cases have been filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
