Two construction workers were killed after being electrocuted at the under-construction building of Bandarban Sadar Hospital on Thursday morning (June 11).

The incident took place around 10:45am on the third floor of the hospital construction site, according to authorities.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, 35, son of Mohammad Ali Matbor from Charfashion upazila of Bhola, and Md Sakib, 22, son of Hazrat Ali from Uttar Char Mongol area.

Another worker, Moin Uddin, lost consciousness during the incident and has been admitted to hospital for treatment.

Eyewitness workers Mohammad Salamat Ullah and Md Tuhin said the victims were working on plastering while standing on scaffolding. At the same time, an aluminium container carrying plastering materials was being lifted upwards.

The container reportedly came into contact with an overhead power line, becoming electrically charged and electrocuting the two workers, who then fell from height. The container also fell on them, resulting in fatal injuries on the spot.

Bandarban Civil Surgeon Dr Shahin Hossain Chowdhury confirmed that the two workers died instantly at the scene, while another worker fainted after witnessing the incident and is currently receiving treatment.

Public Works Department Assistant Engineer Sumit Roy said preliminary observations suggest negligence and lack of safety measures during construction work.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Manna De said the bodies have been recovered and an investigation has been launched to determine whether proper safety protocols were followed and how the accident occurred.

Authorities said further investigation is underway.
