Two workers killed in fire at chip factory in Badda
Two workers have been killed in a fire at a chip factory on the cemetery road in East Badda, capital. The deceased have been identified as Mahmudul Hasan, 23, and Mostafa Mia, 21.
The incident occurred around 3:00 am on Monday, May 25.
Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Harun Or Rashid confirmed the matter. He said the bodies of the two workers were recovered from inside Amir Hossain's chip factory on cemetery road under Badda police station around 4:15 am on Monday. The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy after legal procedures.
A co-worker, Rakibul Islam, said 10 workers had fallen asleep inside the factory after finishing work at night. Around 3:00 am, they woke up to shouts of 'fire, fire' from outside. They saw the factory had caught fire. Everyone managed to get out quickly, but Mahmudul Hasan and Mostafa Mia could not. Their bodies were later recovered.
The building has two floors. A furniture factory is on the ground floor, and the chip factory is on the upper floor.
Mahmudul Hasan was the son of Islam Uddin of Bara Jammapara village in Taraganj upazila, Rangpur. Mostafa Mia was the son of Majnu Mia of Char Kazipara village in the same upazila. They lived inside the chip factory on cemetery road in East Badda.
