Two worshippers shot inside mosque during Fajr prayers in Khulna
Two people were injured after unidentified assailants opened fire inside a mosque during Fajr prayers in Khulna’s Daulatpur area early Sunday (June 14).
The incident took place around 5:30am at the West Kashipur Power Station Jame Mosque, where attackers reportedly entered during congregational prayers and targeted mosque committee secretary Lokman Hakim, 45. Another worshipper, Alam Mondal, 55, was also struck by bullets.
According to Khulna Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Md. Abdur Razzak, the attackers opened fire inside the mosque before fleeing the scene. Police later visited the site and launched an investigation.
Locals said Lokman Hakim sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was critically injured. He was initially taken to a local facility before being referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Alam Mandal suffered injuries to his head, neck and right arm and was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Hospital sources said he is currently out of danger.
Police said the motive behind the attack is yet to be determined, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.
