CID has recovered the skeletons of a mother and child from a pond in Sonaimuri, Noakhali, two years after they were murdered over a property dispute. The step-sons of the deceased woman and a grandson have been arrested.

The skeletons were recovered on Sunday, May 24, from a pond at the house of Abu Amin in the Joyag village of Joyag union using an excavator.

The deceased have been identified as Kamala Begum, 32, and her son Md Noman, 9. Kamala Begum was the wife of Abul Kalam Azad of the same area.

According to CID sources, Kamala Begum and her son Noman were murdered in January 2024 by her step-sons Raju and Sagar, along with her grandson Tipu, over a family property dispute. Since it was the dry season, the bodies were stripped and buried in the pond to conceal the crime.

Additional Superintendent of Police and CID Noakhali in-charge Md Raichul Islam confirmed the matter, stating that a case was initially filed in court, followed by a GR case at Sonaimuri Police Station. Three individuals involved in the incident have been arrested. Based on their confessions, the skeletons of the mother and child were recovered.

Locals chanted slogans demanding the death penalty for the step-sons and grandson involved in the incident.
