Two youth killed in Gopalganj train accident
Two young men were killed after being run over by a train near Maheshpur Railway Station in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj late Tuesday night (August 11).
The deceased were identified as Mehedi Sheikh, 25, son of Babul Sheikh of Noapara village, and Hasib Gazi, 20, son of Shah Alam Gazi of Baokhola village, both in Maheshpur union.
According to police, the incident occurred around 11:00pm near Badsha Khan’s house adjacent to the railway station. They are believed to have been struck by the Rupsha Express travelling from Dhaka to Khulna sometime after 10:00pm.
Their bodies were found on the railway tracks early Wednesday by local residents, who alerted police.
Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kashiani Police Station, said, "Railway police in Rajbari had been informed of the incident."
Railway police later reached the scene and recovered the bodies. Legal procedures were expected to be completed before the bodies were handed over to the families.
The exact circumstances leading to the deaths were not immediately clear, and authorities were investigating the incident.
