Two youths die as motorcycle falls under under-construction culvert in Chapainawabganj

Two youths died after their motorcycle fell under an under-construction culvert in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj. The accident occurred around 5:15am on Tuesday, August 18, in the Muslimpur area of Shahbajpur Union on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway.

The deceased are Habibur Rahman, 20, son of Sadikul Islam, and Abul Hayat, 35, son of Jamir Uddin, both from the Baliadighi village in the same union. They worked as truck labourers.

Shibganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Khokon Chandra said Habibur and Abul Hayat were returning home by motorcycle after finishing their work on a truck in the Kansat area. They lost control of the motorcycle and fell under the under-construction culvert in the Muslimpur area.

Both were seriously injured in the accident. Locals rescued them and took them to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors on duty declared them dead after examination.

The police official said police visited the scene after receiving the news. Initially, it is believed that the motorcycle lost control due to negligence and fell under the culvert. As no complaint was filed by the family, the bodies were handed over to relatives after legal formalities.

Meanwhile, locals have expressed concern over whether the under-construction culvert is posing a risk of accidents on the road. The authorities are investigating how the accident occurred.
