Two-year-old killed in rickshaw-van accident in Jatrabari
A two-year-old child named Jonaid Hossain was killed after being run over by a goods-laden rickshaw-van while playing in front of his house in the Kajlarpar area of Jatrabari in the capital. The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon. The child was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Locals said Jonaid was playing in front of his rented house in the Kajlarpar new road area around 11:45am. At one point during play, the child came onto the road. At that time, a goods-laden rickshaw-van passing through the road ran over the child with one of its wheels, leaving Jonaid critically injured.
After the accident, locals quickly rescued the child and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The duty doctor declared him dead around 12:45pm while undergoing treatment.
Inspector Md Faruk of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost confirmed the child's death. He said Jonaid's body has been kept at the hospital morgue. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station.
Jonaid Hossain's home is in the Char Folkan Patwarir Hat village of Kamalnagar upazila in Lakshmipur. His father, Jamir Hossain, is a rickshaw-puller by profession. They lived in a rented house in the Kajlarpar new road area of Jatrabari with their family.
