Typhoid vaccine for 15-month-old children from August 1

A single dose of Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) will be included in the national routine immunisation programme (EPI) for 15-month-old children, starting from August 1, to ensure long-term protection against typhoid fever in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued instructions to all divisional directors, civil surgeons, chief health officers of city corporations, and upazila health and family planning officers regarding necessary preparations and implementation at the field level.

The directive, issued on Monday, July 13, by the EPI branch of DGHS, stated that the decision to include the vaccine was made based on the recommendation of the National Immunisation Technical Advisory Committee and the decision of the Inter-Agency Coordination Committee (ICC), following the successful implementation of the national TCV campaign in 2025.

According to the directive, all 15-month-old children will be given one dose of TCV at permanent and temporary EPI vaccination centres. The vaccine can be administered alongside the MR-2 (measles-rubella) vaccine in the same session. Vaccination of children must be registered in the Vax: EPI app, vaccine cards downloaded, and information updated through the Smart Health BD/e-Tracker app after vaccination.

Arrangements have also been made to facilitate birth registration through coordination meetings at the upazila level.
