UGC orders free Wi-Fi facilities in all universities
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all public and private universities in the country to ensure free Wi-Fi facilities within 60 working days.
The Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) will assist in implementing this initiative. The facility will be expanded gradually to residential halls and other educational and research infrastructure, the UGC said.
The information was shared in a press release signed by Mohammad Zaminur Rahman, Director (additional charge) of the UGC's Public Relations and Publications Division, on Wednesday, March 25.
The press release stated that this initiative is part of the current government's election manifesto commitment to expanding digital facilities in the education sector, assisting students in education and research, and reducing the digital divide through the introduction of 'free Wi-Fi'.
A decision in this regard was made at a meeting held at the UGC office on the same day, chaired by UGC Chairman Dr Mamun Ahmed.
