Ujirpur Awami League joint general secretary arrested
The Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested banned Awami League leader Shahidul Islam Mridha in a drive in Ujirpur in Barisal.
A team of the District Detective Branch arrested him from the upazila town on Monday evening.
The Detective Branch said that there are several political cases against Ujirpur Upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary and Barakotha Union Parishad Chairman Shahidul Islam Mridha. He fled and took refuge elsewhere when the Awami League government fell on August 5, 2024. On Monday night, based on secret information, the Detective Branch conducted a drive and arrested him. Later, the DB police handed him over to the Ujirpur Police Station. The arrest of Awami League leader Shahidul Islam was confirmed to Views Bangladesh by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ujirpur Model Police Station Md. Rakibul Islam.
The police official said that Awami League leader Shahidul Islam Mridha was arrested in the 'Operation Devil Hunt' drive. He was accused in multiple cases and was in hiding for a long time. The Awami League leader will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
