Former spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Umama Fatema, has announced her candidacy for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election, leading an independent panel.

Fatema collected her nomination form on Monday, the final day for submissions, confirming her intention to contest for the position of Vice President (VP).

According to sources, Al Sadi Bhuiyan, former president of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association, will run for General Secretary (GS), while the association’s current president, Mahiuddin Mujahid Mahi, will vie for Assistant General Secretary (AGS).

Speaking to reporters, Umama Fatema said, “We will finalize and announce our panel tomorrow (Tuesday) based on merit. Our goal is to present a student-friendly DUCSU panel.”

The announcement marks a significant development in the lead-up to the much-anticipated DUCSU elections, with growing interest around independent candidates and their platforms.
