Umama Fatema, the defeated vice-president (VP) candidate of the Independent Students' Unity Panel, has demanded a manual recount of votes in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections.

She made this request in writing to the Chief Returning Officer on Monday (September 15).

In the application, Umama Fatema said: "In order to verify the transparency of the recently held DUCSU and Hall Parliament elections 2025, I am demanding the publication of copies of the voter lists of each center, manual recounting instead of OMR machines, and the opening of CCTV footage of voters entering the polling stations to the students."

Earlier, on the day of the election held on September 9, she had boycotted DUCSU, alleging irregularities. The announced results showed that Umama Fatema received 3,389 votes. The VP post was won by the candidate of the Chhatra Shibir-backed panel, Md. Abu Shadik (Shadik Kayem), who received 14,042 votes.

SM Farhad was elected as the General Secretary (GS) from the same panel and Md. Mohiuddin Khan won the post of Assistant General Secretary (AGS).

The candidates of the United Students Alliance supported by Chhatra Shibir won in the elections held for a total of 23 posts.
