UN chief reaffirms strong support, solidarity with Bangladesh

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres has reaffirmed the United Nations’ unwavering support and solidarity with Bangladesh during a meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The assurance came as he met with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, where the UN chief also extended his warm congratulations to the country’s newly formed government.

Guterres commended Bangladesh for its humanitarian role in sheltering forcibly displaced Rohingya people, praising the nation’s generosity and continued commitment despite mounting challenges.

The meeting also touched on key global issues, with Rahman highlighting the ongoing oil crisis and its disproportionate impact on developing and least-developed countries.

During the talks, the foreign minister conveyed an invitation from the prime minister for Guterres to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.

The UN chief accepted the invitation with appreciation.
