UN is not perfect, but its alternative is unimaginable: FM

President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly Dr Khalilur Rahman has remarked that the United Nations is not perfect, but it is indispensable and its alternative is unimaginable.

He made these remarks in a post on his official Facebook page on Friday, September 25, referring to his opening speech at the 81st session of the United Nations.

Dr Khalilur Rahman said, "We must identify where the United Nations is falling behind. We must bring reforms to the things that are no longer effective."

He said, "Trust cannot be demanded; it has to be earned." He called for including more voices in decision-making discussions, from industry leaders to young change-makers.

The President of the UN General Assembly further said this session has created the opportunity to build a United Nations that is realistic enough to tackle difficult realities, brave enough for reform and open enough to include the necessary stakeholders.

Only in this way can the United Nations be made fit for the future, he remarked.
