UN must keep pace with changing global realities: CA
Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has emphasized that the United Nations must evolve with the changing times to ensure global peace and strengthen multilateral cooperation.
In a message marking the 80th anniversary of the UN’s founding on Friday (October 24), he said, “If the UN wishes to fulfill our shared aspirations for peace and cooperation, it must adapt to the changing global realities.”
He called for comprehensive reforms within the UN to make it more dynamic, inclusive, and effective in addressing current challenges.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s contributions, Dr. Yunus noted that since joining the UN in 1974, the country has emerged as one of the top contributors to peacekeeping missions, with many Bangladeshi peacekeepers making the ultimate sacrifice for global peace.
He also stressed the importance of rule-based multilateralism in addressing global issues such as sustainable development, trade, and climate change, while urging the international community to pay renewed attention to humanitarian crises like Gaza and the Rohingya situation.
