Uncle arrested on allegation of killing 7-year-old niece in Brahmanbaria

Allegations have been raised against her uncle of killing 7-year-old niece Mahida after calling her into the house on the pretext of giving water in Ashuganj of Brahmanbaria. This incident took place in Andidil village of Talshahar union under the upazila on Friday afternoon. After the incident locals arrested the accused uncle Jahidul, 17, and handed him over to the police.

The deceased Mahida was the daughter of Saudi expatriate Mojammel Mia of that village. She was a student of the Nazera section of a local madrasa.

Relatives and eyewitnesses informed that after Juma prayers on Friday Jahidul called Mahida into an empty dwelling house on the pretext of giving water. The family alleged that the child was tortured there. At one stage Jahidul killed Mahida and tried to flee from there.

Meanwhile, not seeing her daughter Mahida’s mother Monira Begum started searching. At one stage when suspicion arose she went to Jahidul’s room and saw Mahida lying in an unconscious state. People from the surrounding area rushed hearing her screams and rescued the child and took her to the 250-bed Brahmanbaria General Hospital. The doctor on duty there declared her dead.

Doctor on duty at the hospital Dr Monir Hossain said the child was brought to the hospital in a dead state. There are marks of injury on multiple places of her body. The specific cause of death will be known after the autopsy.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Sarail-Ashuganj Circle Jahangir Alam said Jahidul has been arrested on the allegation of murder. In the primary interrogation he has confessed to the murder. Details on this matter will be known after the end of the investigation.
