Unemployment in Bangladesh rises to 2.61 million: BBS

The number of unemployed people in Bangladesh has increased, reaching 2.61 million by the end of 2024, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

Data from BBS’s Labour Force Survey shows that during the October–December 2024 period, the number of unemployed individuals rose by 60,000 compared to the previous quarter (July–September), when the figure stood at 2.55 million.

The BBS also reported that the unemployment rate in 2024 was 4.48%, up from 4.15% in 2023.

Experts suggest that the data reflects an imbalance between labor market demand and supply. However, the government continues to implement initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth and employment opportunities.
