University student dies in Barishal bus crash

A university student died after being struck by a bus headed to Dhaka, leading to a blockade on the Dhaka-Barishal highway.

The deceased was identified as Maisha Fauzia Mim, a student of University of Barishal.

The accident took place around 8.00pm near Gate 1 of Barishal university.

Following the incident, university students blocked the Dhaka-Barishal highway disrupting traffic until nearly 2:00am. The students also set the bus involved in the accident on fire.

Confirming the matter, Rafiq-ul-Islam, officer-in-charge at Bandar Police Station, said,  "On Wednesday night, October 30, as Mim was crossing a road near Gate 1 of the university, she was struck by a Narayanganj Paribahan bus heading to Dhaka."

"Efforts are ongoing to arrest the driver, who fled the scene immediately following the accident," he added.
