University student killed after covered van collision

A motorcyclist named Lutfur Rahman Rayan, 26, was killed after being hit by a truck following a collision with a covered van in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar area. He was a law student at Northern University. Another youth named Sajib was injured in the incident.

The accident occurred around 12am on Wednesday, September 24, in front of a Bata showroom.

Witnesses said the two riders were heading towards Farmgate on a motorcycle when they were struck by a covered van and fell onto the road. A truck coming from behind ran over Rayan, killing him on the spot. The injured youth was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Sub-Inspector Babor Ali of Tejgaon Police Station said police reached the scene upon receiving information. The body was later sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

The covered van was seized. While the driver managed to flee, his assistant, Tarikul Islam, was arrested. The deceased hailed from Mohanganj upazila of Netrokona and lived in Dhaka with his family.
