Unnatural death case filed over pedestrian’s death from falling metro pad

An unnatural death case has been filed following the pedestrian death, who was struck by a bearing pad fell from a metro rail pillar in capital’s Farmgate area on 26 October.

The victim’s wife, Irene Akter Pia, lodged the case with Tejgaon Police Station, confirmed OC Mobarak Hossain.

The deceased, Abul Kalam, 35, was a resident of Shariatpur and worked at a travel agency in Uttara. He died on the spot after being struck by a falling bearing pad from the pillar 433.

Two others were injured in this incident.

Meanwhile, a public interest writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking formation of a committee to inspect the quality of bearing pads of all metro lines and flyovers.

Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan announced Tk5 lakh in financial aid for the family, coverage of funeral costs, and employment for a family member at the metro rail company.

A five-member investigation committee, headed by Bridge Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf, has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee has also been directed to submit its report within two weeks, including recommendations to prevent such accidents.
