UNO’s convoy attacked in Gopalganj

The convoy of the Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) came under attack on Wednesday, allegedly by members of the banned political group Awami League and its student wing Chhatra League.

The incident occurred in the Gandhiyashur area of Gopalganj Sadar as the National Citizen Party (NCP) was preparing to hold a scheduled march as part of its month-long "July March" programme. The event, set to take place at the Gopalganj Municipal Park, was expected to feature senior NCP leaders.

Speaking to reporters, Gopalganj Sadar UNO Md. Rakibul Hasan confirmed the attack and said, "Supporters of the Awami League and Chhatra League attempted to disrupt the NCP’s program by attacking our convoy. Several vehicles were vandalized during the incident."

Multiple injuries were reported, though the exact number of those hurt has not been confirmed. Security forces have since been deployed to the area to restore order and prevent further violence.

Authorities are investigating the attack, but no arrests have been reported as of yet. The NCP has condemned the incident and called for legal action against those responsible.
