Upazila Jamaat ameer among 3 sent to jail for dispute over chicken droppings

A court has sent three leaders, including the ameer of the Fulbaria upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, to jail in a case filed under the Speedy Trial Act over a dispute involving chicken droppings in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh.

The accused appeared before the Mymensingh District and Sessions Court on Sunday (9 August) on the scheduled hearing date and sought bail. Following the hearing, the court rejected their bail petitions and ordered that they be sent to jail.

The three accused sent to jail are Maulana Fazlul Haque Shamim, ameer of Fulbaria upazila Jamaat-e-Islami; Dr Md Abdur Razzaq, upazila secretary; and Abdul Majid, a member of the upazila Jamaat’s working committee, president of the Teachers’ Federation and headteacher of Alhera Academy High School.

According to case documents and sources concerned, allegations of violence and extortion arose from a dispute over chicken droppings in the Kahalgaon area of Fulbaria.

Abdul Qayyum Talukder, general secretary of the Fulbaria upazila unit of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, filed the case under the Speedy Trial Act in connection with the incident. Several people, including the brother of local Member of Parliament Kamrul Hasan Milon of Mymensingh-6 constituency, have been accused in the case.

The court has also issued arrest warrants against several accused, including the MP’s brother, for failing to appear before the court on the scheduled hearing date.
