Upcoming election will be globally recognised historic vote: Salahuddin
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has declared that the forthcoming national parliamentary election in Bangladesh will be a globally recognised historic event.
He made the remark during speaking at a public rally in Fultala Station of Cox’s Bazar-1 on Thursday (December 4).
He said, "The election comes after 16–17 years of anti-autocracy and pro-democracy movements, mass uprisings, and the sacrifices of countless martyrs that secured democracy in the country."
He emphasised that voters will exercise their franchise freely in a liberated environment. “We have fought and shed blood to achieve this right. The people of Bangladesh are now free from fascism, and the fascist ruling Awami League under Sheikh Hasina has been compelled to retreat,” Salahuddin said.
He added that the election will help establish a strong democratic system, ensuring citizens’ constitutional, human, and civil rights. Highlighting BNP’s 31-point reform agenda announced earlier in 2023, Salahuddin said the party aims to rebuild a strong democratic state through structural and constitutional reforms.
He also noted that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged initiatives such as family cards for all citizens, agricultural cards for farmers, and universal access to quality healthcare and security.
