UPDF member killed in ‘gunfight’ in Khagrachhari

A member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed and another was injured in a ‘gunfight’ with security forces in the Premtala area of ​​Ramgarh upazila in Khagrachhari district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Bobin Tripura, 32. He was a member of the UPDF unit led by Prasit Bikash Khisa. The injured has been identified as Monsanu Marma alias Jiban, 29.

Ramgarh police station officer-in-charge (OC) Nazir Alam said that armed UPDF members opened fire on an army patrol party in Sindukchhari zone on Wednesday morning, to which security forces members also returned fire.

He said that Bobin died on the spot and Jiban was injured in the gunfight. He also said that an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the scene and the injured UPDF member was arrested.

Extra precautionary measures have been taken in the area following the gunfight.
