UPDF member shot dead in Khagrachhari
A member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-Democratic) was shot dead by unidentified armed assailants in Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari on Thursday morning (May 7).
The victim was identified as Md. Imon Hossain, 25, son of Ruhul Amin from the Mohammadpur area of Panchhari upazila.
The incident took place around 6am in the Islampur Down area on the Panchhari-Laugang road, according to local sources.
Sources said Imon had gone to the area early in the morning as it was Laugang market day. At that time, a group of armed attackers opened fire on him and fled the scene. He died on the spot.
UPDF (Democratic) organiser Amar Chakma claimed that Imon was a member of their organisation and blamed the killing on the UPDF (Prosit) group.
However, no statement from the UPDF (Prosit) group was immediately available regarding the allegation.
Panchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Ferdous Wahid said police had received information about the shooting and were heading to the scene.
“The body will be recovered and details will be known after investigation,” the OC added.
