Uras Sharif of Shah Arefin (Rah.) suspended
The celebration of traditional Hazrat Shah Arefin (Rah.) uras sharif has been suspended this year as the date coincides with Laylatul Qadr.
The Shah Arefin (Rah.) Uras Celebration Committee has made the decision from a meeting at the conference room of the District Administrator on Sunday.
According to the new decision, all are urged not to spread any misinformation about the suspension of the uras sharif celebration.
District Magistrate and also the Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Mia said this year the uras sharif was supposed to be held from March 27 to March 29. This time, the night of Laylatul Qadr falls on the specified date of the celebration. So the committee decided to suspend it this time.
He warned of strict measures in case of any untoward situation regarding the issue.
He said that the army will be deployed if necessary.
Urs has been celebrated for thousands of years in the Lauregarh area on the banks of the Jadukata River, bordering Tahirpur Upazila.
Incidentally, Hazrat Shah Arefin (RA) was one of the 360 Auliyas accompanying Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in Sylhet. In fact, although Hazrat Shah Arefin's (RA) shrine is located in the Meghalaya hills of India across the border, thousands of men and women from different parts of the country come to the Uras Mubarak at that time and visit the shrine.
Shah Arefin (RA) is known to many as a Zindapiir. Every year, the entire border area comes alive with the gathering of devotees around the celebration.
General visitors come to the Bangladesh shrine, which is intertwined with the memory of Shah Arefin (RA) and from there they explore the shrine of Shah Arefin (RA) located in the Meghalaya hills of India nearby. Some come with vows, some receive prayers, and some visit the shrine.
