US ambassador Brent Christensen arrives in Dhaka

Brent Christensen, the new United States ambassador to Bangladesh, arrived in Dhaka on Monday, January 12, evening. Officials from the American Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed him at the airport.

Diplomatic sources said Christensen will formally start his mission in Dhaka this week by presenting his credentials. Within two days, he will meet Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam and Nurul Islam, head of the Department of State Protocol, to prepare for the credential ceremony. He will then present his credentials to President Md. Shahabuddin on Thursday.

Christensen took his oath at the US Department of State on January 9, administered by Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas, after which the US Embassy in Dhaka welcomed him.
