US Ambassador visits flatland tea garden, traditional mango tree in Thakurgaon

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen has visited the flatland tea cultivation and the more than two-century-old traditional Surjapuri mango tree in Baliadangi of Thakurgaon. During the visit to the border area of the upazila he inquired about local agriculture, tea cultivation and historical structures on Monday (August 31).

The US Ambassador reached Sultan Tea Estate of Nitoldoba village of the upazila in the afternoon on Monday (August 31). There owner of the Tea Estate Foyzul Islam Hiru, district BNP president Mirza Faisal Amin and local government officials welcomed him.

While touring the tea garden Brent T Christensen wanted to know about the method and possibility of tea cultivation on the flatland. He expressed satisfaction after seeing the environment of the garden and the activities of tea production there. The Ambassador said he has seen a flatland tea garden in Bangladesh for the first time and he is happy at this experience.

At this time the US Ambassador also informed about the interest of cooperation in the development of Bangladesh by praising the hard work of the local people. Later he talked with the workers of the tea garden and wanted to know about their work and various problems. He also gave the assurance of necessary cooperation to the workers.

After finishing the visit to Sultan Tea Estate Brent T Christensen went to Harinmari area of Amjankhor union. There he toured the more than 200-year-old Surjapuri mango tree. He inquired about the huge size, age and tradition of the tree known as one of the largest in Asia and expressed amazement after seeing it.

Through the visit to the flatland tea garden and the ancient Surjapuri mango tree in the same tour the US Ambassador got the opportunity of knowing directly about the agriculture of Thakurgaon, the labour of the local people and the tradition of the area. Additional District Magistrate Golam Ferdous and government officials and local representatives were present in the visit.
