US Ambassador visits historic Kantanagar Temple in Dinajpur

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen visited the historic Kantanagar Temple in Dinajpur on Tuesday (1 September).

He toured the archaeological site, located in Ramchandrapur Union of Kaharole upazila, with his wife, Diane Dao, on Tuesday morning.
Upon their arrival, members of the indigenous community welcomed the US ambassador with a traditional dance performance and flowers. Christensen later lit a ceremonial lamp on the temple premises and took part in the arati ceremony.

During the visit, the ambassador toured different sections of the temple. Officials briefed him on its history, architectural style and the cultural heritage associated with the site. He also praised the intricate and artistic terracotta work adorning the temple walls.

Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Islam, Police Superintendent Zedan Al Musa, Department of Archaeology Regional Director Dr Ahmed Abdullah, Raj Debottor Estate Agent Ranjit Singh and officials from various government departments were present during the visit.

The historic Kantanagar Temple is one of Bangladesh’s important archaeological landmarks. Built in the 18th century, the temple is particularly renowned for its remarkable terracotta ornamentation. Every year, large numbers of tourists, visitors and researchers from Bangladesh and abroad travel to Dinajpur to admire its architecture and intricate craftsmanship.
