US Company to Manage Upcoming BPL

The 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be held later this year. Earlier it was revealed that to avoid controversies, the responsibility of organizing the tournament would be given to a foreign management company. Among several contenders, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has chosen US-based sports event management firm IMG.

The decision was finalized by BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul at a board meeting held in Sylhet on Monday (September 1).

Earlier, BCB had advertised to invite interest from management firms. Seven companies came forward, including India’s Real Impact, Pakistan’s Apex Sports, USA’s IMG and Absolute Legends Sports, the joint America-Bangladesh venture IPG Group, Mind Tree Limited, and Transport Group.

About a month ago, presentations were taken from five shortlisted companies, after which three made it to the final list. From there, the board decided to appoint IMG as the event manager.

It has been confirmed that IMG will manage the upcoming BPL under a three-season agreement. The American company, which has also worked with the IPL, will now handle BPL event management as well.

However, details regarding the financial deal have not yet been disclosed. How much IMG will receive for managing the tournament, and how much BCB will have to spend, remains unspecified.
