US embassy issues urgent warning on visa
The US embassy in Dhaka has issued a fresh warning for Bangladeshi citizens planning to travel to the United States. The embassy stated that non-immigrant visas may be cancelled if travellers do not have sufficient financial capacity to bear their own expenses during their stay or if they abuse government benefits. Such activities may even lead to permanent ineligibility for entry into the United States in the future.
The embassy issued this directive in a special travel-related message published on Saturday, March 14.
It stated that if any foreign visitor abuses or becomes dependent on public welfare benefits funded by US taxpayers, strict legal action will be taken against them.
The embassy's warning specified that this rule will apply strictly to all types of non-immigrant visa holders, including those for tourism, business, study, journalism, or transit.
The US embassy's message further said travellers must ensure in advance that they have the capacity to bear their own expenses during their stay in the United States. Particularly, those who avail themselves of medical care or other benefits funded by taxpayers during any unforeseen situation or medical emergency risk immediate visa cancellation.
Concerned officials said proof of financial solvency is required when applying for travel to the United States. However, visitors often become dependent on local government benefits or free services once there. Washington has taken a stricter stance to prevent such irregularities in the current situation.
The embassy has requested all travellers to make adequate financial preparations for their entire trip, including potential emergency expenses.
