US envoy greets Bangladeshis in Bangla on International Mother Language Day
On the occasion of National Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen extended greetings to the people of Bangladesh in Bangla, expressing deep respect for the Language Movement martyrs.
His gesture, delivered in the country’s mother tongue, underscores both respect for Bangladesh’s cultural heritage and the global importance of linguistic diversity.
In a video message posted on the official Facebook page of the US Embassy Dhaka on Saturday (February 21), the ambassador said, “Greetings to all on the great Ekushey. My profound respect to the language martyrs. Language defines our culture.”
He noted that February 21 teaches people to speak their own language and remember their history, and emphasised US solidarity with the Bangladeshi people on this day.
The day is being observed across the country with official state ceremonies. At the first hour of Ekushey, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman laid a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar.
