US envoy Sergio Gor greets Trivedi on joining Dhaka mission
US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor has congratulated Dinesh Trivedi as India's new High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
In a post on X on Thursday (June 25), Gor wrote: "Wishing High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi all the very best as he assumes his important role as India's new high commissioner to Bangladesh. As the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, I look forward to working closely with him."
Trivedi formally assumed office earlier in the day after presenting his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.
Before the credential ceremony, the newly appointed envoy was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the presidential palace in keeping with diplomatic protocol, officials from the President's Office said.
Trivedi's appointment comes at a significant moment in Bangladesh-India relations, as both neighbours seek to rebuild bilateral engagement following the deterioration of ties after the ouster of the Awami League government in August 2024.
Diplomatic observers view his posting as an important step in efforts to restore cooperation and strengthen political and strategic engagement between New Delhi and Dhaka.
