US issues travel alert for Bangladesh
The United States has issued a Level 3 travel advisory for Bangladesh, urging its citizens to reconsider travel to the country.
Additionally, a Level 4 advisory—the highest level—has been issued for the Chattogram Hill Tracts region, warning U.S. citizens not to travel there due to safety concerns.
The updated travel advisory was published on the U.S. State Department’s website on Friday.
According to the travel advisory, civil unrest and violent conflict have significantly declined in Bangladesh since the formation of an interim government last year. However, occasional protests still occur and have the potential to escalate into violent clashes. The situation remains fluid and can change rapidly.
The US State Department has advised US citizens to avoid all gatherings as it can turn violent at very short notice or without any warning.
Due to the risk, U.S. government employees working in Bangladesh are prohibited from non-essential travel outside the diplomatic area in Dhaka. Additionally, they will need special permission to travel outside Dhaka to any district other than Cox's Bazar and Sylhet.
