US not announcing any new bans: Miller
The Bangladesh issue has been discussed again in the regular press briefing of the US State Department. In particular, whether the US will impose any new sanctions before the election on January 7, and whether artificial intelligence technology is being used to spread disinformation against the opposition. However, Matthew Miller, the chief spokesman of the country's Foreign Office, clarified the position of the United States on the issues.
In the regular press briefing of the US State Department on Wednesday local time, Miller said, "I am not announcing any new bans today." He said, "We don't do any review before giving any ban." This is our long-standing practice.
Miller also said, 'We are concerned about the use of deep fake technology in election-related campaigns in Bangladesh. This is part of the alarming global trend of using artificial intelligence to manipulate and influence democratic processes.”
" We call on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid violence. We call on the Government of Bangladesh to work with all partners to create an environment where everyone can participate freely in the pre-election and election environment without fear of violence or reprisals' he added.
