The tariff agreement signed with the United States will only be made public under the Right to Information (RTI) Act if both parties consent, said Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin. He made the remark while speaking to journalists at Gopinathpur High School ground in Akkelpur, Joypurhat, on Friday (September 5).

On ensuring fair prices for potato farmers, the adviser said, “This year potato production has been much higher than before. Prices may rise slightly in the next month. Export is the only way forward. We are providing incentives and support for potato exports, and efforts are underway to create demand. Potatoes will also be purchased from the market through TCB. The government is working to achieve the export target, which will protect the interests of both farmers and consumers.”

Regarding market syndicates, Sheikh Bashir Uddin stated, “A fixed price has been set for each sack of potatoes in all cold storages. Market management, monitoring, and field administration are working together. All cold storages are following the set prices, leaving little scope for syndication.”

At around 12:45 pm, the adviser’s helicopter landed at Gopinathpur High School ground in Akkelpur. Upon arrival, he was greeted with flowers by officials from the district, police, upazila administration, and Gopinathpur Union Parishad, and was given a guard of honour.
