US wants quick national elections in Bangladesh
The United States has been putting emphasis on handing the responsibility over to an elected government through holding quick elections in Bangladesh.
According to several responsible sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, this message was recently sent from the United States through several diplomatic channels.
Sources also said that the United States has expressed concern about the rise of extremism in Bangladesh due to the changing political situation.
According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two parties have held five meetings at different levels. The essence of the meetings and the diplomatic messages that have arrived is: Washington thinks that it will be positive for the government of Dr. Muhammad Yunus to hand over the responsibility to the elected government as soon as possible through an election.
The US also reportedly observed that the longer the term of the interim government, the public support for this government may decrease. For this reason, the United States is considering a national election as important for the political stability of Bangladesh, maintaining the positive opinion of the people.
Sources also said that in the meantime, the United States has asked the interim government to make preparations for the election.
In another development, Washington's message has said that the issue of the rise of extremism is a matter of concern for the United States.
