US-Bangladesh people-to-people ties to deepen further: Envoy

US Ambassador to Dhaka Brent Christensen has said the United States wants to further strengthen relations between the people of Bangladesh and the US. He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the 'American Fair in the Park' event organised by the US embassy at Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan-2, capital, on Saturday, July 4.

The event was organised as part of the 'America Week' programme to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence. The ambassador was joined by Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat. The Gulshan Society cooperated in the overall arrangement.

"The 250-year history of the United States is not just theirs alone; it has inspired many people around the world. Bangladesh's struggle for independence is also part of that inspiration," Christensen said. He added that 250 years ago, the 56 founders of the United States risked everything for freedom and self-governance. The US now wants to share that history of sacrifice and values more with the people of Bangladesh.

The ambassador said, "We want to share our history, ideals and values with the people of Bangladesh. At the same time, we want to learn more about Bangladesh's people and culture." Through this event, they aim to create an opportunity for the US to understand Bangladesh better, and for Bangladesh to know the US more closely.

The exhibition showcases 250 years of US history, culture and values through various stalls. The event, which began at 11:00 am, features informational stalls highlighting America's journey to independence, key historical events and various aspects of its democratic development. Special emphasis has been placed on the historical continuity built around the 250th anniversary of independence.

The 25th Infantry Division (25th ID) US Army Band performed at the event. Barrister Omar Sadat, President of the Gulshan Society, said, "There are embassies of various countries in the Gulshan area. Through cooperation with them in various events, we want to work further to strengthen relations with different countries."

Through the 'America Week' programme, the US embassy has taken the initiative to further strengthen cultural and historical ties between the people of the two countries.
