Angered by severe load-shedding, an incident of vandalism took place at the Palli Bidyut Samity Zonal Office in Koyra upazila of Khulna.

The incident occurred, reportedly resulting in broken window glasses at the office on Thursday morning (June 18). A youth named Rabiul Islam was detained from the spot and later handed over to the police.

According to local sources, following the incident, office employees tied the youth to a pole with a rope.

Local residents reported that Koyra has been experiencing severe load-shedding for the past few days. Power remains unavailable for long periods from 8am to 5pm, and even after that, frequent power outages persist.

They complained that this situation has caused extreme suffering in public life.

Koyra Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Shah Alam said that the youth involved in the incident has mental health issues. The process of releasing him is underway after summoning the head of his family to sign a bond.

According to data from the local Palli Bidyut Samity, while the daily demand in Koyra is around 10 MW, only 6 MW is being supplied from the Satkhira grid. The authority is forced to enforce load-shedding across the area due to this deficit.

It has been informed that rolling load-shedding is currently ongoing under Feeder No. 6 in Maheshwaripur, South Bedkashi, and Maharajpur, among other partial areas.
