Traffic pressure on the Jamuna Bridge has increased significantly ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. A total of 36,923 vehicles crossed the bridge in the 24 hours from midnight Monday to midnight Tuesday. Toll collection during this period amounted to Tk 2 crore 94 lakh 71 thousand 660.

According to bridge toll plaza sources, an average of 15,000 to 16,000 vehicles use the Jamuna Bridge daily under normal circumstances. However, this number nearly doubles during special situations or festivals. Officials say the increase in vehicular movement is due to election activities.

According to data, 23,989 vehicles crossed the eastern end towards North Bengal from Monday midnight, with toll collection of Tk 1 crore 71 lakh 73 thousand 900. During the same period, 22,034 vehicles crossed the western end, with toll collection of Tk 1 crore 15 lakh 33 thousand 750.

Previously, vehicle pressure had also increased on the bridge during the holy Eid-ul-Azha. In June last year, 2 lakh 28 thousand 47 vehicles crossed in five days, with toll collection of Tk 16 crore 76 lakh 46 thousand 550. On the day before Eid, 48,184 vehicles crossed in a single day, the highest in 24 hours, with toll collection of Tk 3 crore 43 lakh 72 thousand 750.
