'Verdict in Yunus case won’t affect Dhaka-Washington ties'
Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen has said that the relations between Bangladesh and the United States would not be affected by issues involving any individual.
“It's not normal for an issue involving an individual to have an impact on the state-to-state relations," he said.
He made the remarks while responding to a question on a Dhaka labour court's verdict against Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus on Monday.
The foreign secretary said the verdict has been reached through a legal process, and Prof Yunus has the scope to appeal against it.
"He has also been granted bail. So it is an ongoing legal process," Masud added.
Earlier, the Dhaka court that sentenced Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus and three top officials of Grameen Telecom to six months’ jail in a case over violation of labor law granted them conditional bail.
Dhaka 3rd Labor Court Judge Sheikh Merina Sultana pronounced the judgment.
