Verification underway for 90,000 jobs held by FFs' descendants: Faruk-e-Azam
The government has initiated a verification process for nearly 90,000 individuals who obtained government jobs claiming to be children of freedom fighters. Legal action will be taken against those found to have secured employment using false identities, said Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam.
He made the remarks on Monday (August 4) while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
Faruk-e-Azam stated, “During the tenure of previous governments, many people obtained fake freedom fighter certificates and took advantage of various benefits. Some even acquired certificates through the courts despite the existence of a designated authority—JAMUKA (National Freedom Fighters Council).”
He added, “The current interim government is determined to remove fake freedom fighters. To that end, the government is preparing to seek consolidated directives from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.”
Speaking at the same event, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Abdus Salam said, “Freedom fighters are a national asset. They must not be divided for political reasons. Even if they are imprisoned, they must be ensured division facilities as per their status.”
