Vessel carrying US wheat arrives Chattogram port
A vessel carrying 61,000 tonnes of wheat from the United States has anchored at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port on Wednesday (April 1), the Ministry of Food confirmed.
The shipment, carried by MV MP Ultramax 2, was imported under a government-to-government (G2G-3) agreement between Bangladesh and the US.
Earlier consignments under the deal included 58,457 tonnes and 62,150 tonnes of wheat.
Sample testing of the cargo is underway, with unloading preparations already in progress.
Of the total shipment, 29,450 tonnes will be discharged at Chattogram Port, while the remaining 31,000 tonnes will be sent to Mongla Port.
Officials said Bangladesh has so far imported 4,67,884 tonnes of wheat under G2G agreements. The country’s annual wheat demand stands at around 70 lakh tonnes, while domestic production is about 10 lakh tonnes.
