Veteran Awami League leader, seven-time MP Dabirul Islam passes away
Veteran Bangladesh Awami League leader and former Member of Parliament Dabirul Islam has passed away at the age of 77.
He breathed his last on Thursday (May 28), the day of Eid-ul-Azha, while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital, family sources confirmed.
According to relatives, the senior politician died in the afternoon after battling age-related health complications.
Dabirul Islam was one of the most prominent political figures from northern Bangladesh and represented the Thakurgaon-2 constituency in parliament seven times. He was first elected in 1986 and later served consecutive terms during 1991–1996 and from 1996 onward, establishing himself as a longstanding presence in national politics.
During his political career, he also served as chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.
